I like the background but if you want to change it, maybe you can look at subtle 60's style texture to it...
I would make sure you have more 'air' at the bottom. At the moment, the composition is top-heavy. If you pull the background down (not the circle), making more space between the bottom of the circle and the bottom of the page, then the image will be better balanced.
Typically, when you are considering your composition the top and sides would have the same "air" space between the edge of the image and the edge of the frame. The bottom margin is always broader than the other three sides because optically it needs more support to stop the picture sliding out of the frame
